University Threat Assessment Team

About the Team

The University of Toledo's Threat Assessment Team (UTAT) was established in a proactive effort to address and prevent incidents of workplace violence. The team is dedicated to fostering a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

The UTAT is a multidisciplinary group that investigates potential threats and acts of workplace violence. We aim to identify and assess behaviors that may pose a risk to the university community and, through a comprehensive evaluation, provide the university with recommendations for effective prevention and response. Our goal is to promote a culture of safety and well-being for everyone at the University of Toledo.

How We Respond

When the UTAT is activated to investigate allegations of workplace violence our process includes a series of critical steps:

  • Information Gathering: We meet with involved individuals and review relevant documents to determine the nature and details of the incident.

  • Threat Evaluation: We carefully assess the alleged threat by evaluating the intent, capacity, and means to carry it out.

  • Post-Incident Recommendations: We provide a comprehensive written report that includes an assessment of the threat level, the likelihood of reoccurrence, and actionable recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

  • Victim Support: We provide victims who are employees with information on available benefits and resources.

  • Support for the Community: We ensure that all affected employees and their family members have access to counseling and other necessary support services.

Our Commitment

The University Threat Assessment Team (UTAT) is committed to maintaining a safe and secure campus. Our work is focused on early intervention and risk mitigation to protect the well-being of the entire University of Toledo community. We believe that a collaborative and informed approach is the most effective way to address potential threats and create a positive and safe environment for all.
