About MAGSS

Mid-Atlantic Graduate Student Symposium (MAGSS)

Each year, the Departments of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences of The University of Toledo, West Virginia University, The Ohio State University,Photo of student in lab Purdue University, Duquesne University, and Wayne State University participate in the Mid-Atlantic Graduate Student Symposium in Medicinal Chemistry (abbreviated as MAGSS). The symposium, held at The University of Toledo this year, is celebrating its 47th year of promoting currently ongoing research in the fields of medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, and drug discovery and development.

The MAGSS event has traditionally been organized and executed entirely by graduate students of the hosting university. Based on long-standing customs, participants have an opportunity to develop effective presentation and communication skills through both oral and poster presentations in the atmosphere of a casual scientific meeting. For over 45 years now, these meetings have provided graduate students with a platform to present their research to peers in similar programs of study at other esteemed universities. Through these interactions, the MAGSS design itself fosters an environment conducive for collaboration and the sharing of ideas between like-minded scientists. As in past MAGSS events, prominent scientists are invited to deliver keynote addresses, giving graduate students the opportunity to converse and network with top scientists in the field.

The graduate students and faculty of The University of Toledo welcome you warmly and are proud to open our doors to members of the medicinal chemistry community.  We are pleased to continue a tradition that helps to prepare graduate students for careers in medicinal chemistry and beyond.
