Biomedical IRBThe Biomedical IRB reviews human subject research studies that are designed to evaluate the safety, effectiveness, or usefulness of an intervention including research on therapies (e.g., drugs, diet, exercise, surgical interventions, or medical devices), diagnostic procedures (e.g., CT scans, MRIs), and preventive measures, and/or review of existing records related to medical care or treatment. |
Social, Behavioral and Educational IRBThe Social, Behavioral and Educational IRB reviews human subject research studies that utilize questionnaires, interviews, observation, review of existing records, and behavioral, educational, or other interventions that do not fall under the purview of the Biomedical IRB.

Submit to the most appropriate IRB, regardless of which campus you are on. Questions regarding the more appropriate committee for review may be addressed with the HRPP office.
To avoid delays in approval ensure all relevant research materials are attached and the application is clear, consistent, and complete.
Research that qualifies as exempt or expedited is reviewed on an ongoing bases. Research that does not qualify as exempt or expedited must be reviewed by the full committee at a convened meeting.
