University Counseling Center

Training Philosophy

The University of Toledo Counseling Center prepares trainees of all mental health disciplines to be strong, competent, and ethical generalists within their discipline ready for work in a variety of mental health settings and agencies. The UCC utilizes a Culturally-Informed Developmental Model that meets the individual needs of trainees and applies a graduated model of learning that emphasizes cultural awareness. Trainees engage in the learning process through didactic learning and practical experiences including, but not limited to, seminars, screenings, individual and group counseling, consultation, workshops, supervision, and outreach. The goal of training is to help trainees grow in their clinical competence and become ethical, confident general clinicians with a social justice mindset.
