Master of Liberal Studies

ADMISSION TO THE M.I.S. PROGRAM

 The Application Process

Apply online at the College of Graduate Studies Web site. For the program of study, please select "Interdisciplinary Studies (MA)" from the drop-down list. The College of Graduate Studies requires official copies of all transcripts of post-secondary education. The transcripts should show all academic work undertaken and all degrees granted. If you attended The University of Toledo you do not have to submit transcripts.

You will need to identify three persons who can provide a letter of recommendation. The letters should be from individuals who are capable of assessing your potential for completing a master's level academic program. Click on "Letters of Recommendation" from the online application check-list to send electronic requests for letters of recommendation.

The application process also requires submission of a statement of purpose and a writing sample. The statement of purpose should explain your interest in seeking a graduate degree from the Master of Interdisciplinary Studies program. Please be specific about any areas of concentration you hope to focus on with coursework or the Master's thesis/project. Click on "Statement of Purpose" from the online application check-list and upload your statement of purpose document.

Please provide a college or work-related writing sample that demonstrates your ability to present ideas in a clear, well organized and well written manner. Click on "Writing Sample" from the online application check-list to upload your writing sample document.

After your application is complete, the College of Graduate Studies will notify the Director of the Master of Interdisciplinary Studies Program. The Director will review your application and arrange a time for an interview. (The interview may be in-person, virtual, or by telephone.) You will be notified (usually within a month) of the decision regarding your admission status.

Note: The Master of Interdisciplinary Studies program does not require the GRE for admission.
