Let us show your students how we can help

Request a presentation about career services for your class, student organization or event.

Career Services recognizes that unique experiences outside of the classroom are important for our students to succeed. Our staff can share those opportunities with your students through a scheduled presentation. We can also explore the exciting time after graduation and provide tips on how to launch a career. Plus, presentations can be customized to your student's areas of study with advanced notice. 

PRESENTATION DESCRIPTIONS 

  • Resume and Cover Letters Interactive (45min): These presentations will briefly review the components of a resume and cover letter but will focus on areas where students can build on and improve their resumes. Students will have the opportunity to develop and refine some areas of their resume, including bullet points during the presentation. 
    • Build Your Resume Like a Pro-Lower-Level (see above) 
      • Focuses on formatting and transferable skills
    • Build Your Resume Like a Pro-Upper-Level (above presentation - will also include CV component)
      • Focuses on customization
  • Resume Workshop (45 – 90min): Career Services staff will provide a brief presentation about resume writing, but the vast majority of the workshop will be spent with students critiquing each other’s resumes and working on improving their resume under the guidance of CS staff.  
  • Resume and Cover Letter Lecture (45 min): Lecture-style presentation that will introduce and cover the basics of writing resumes and cover letters using the Career Service resume and cover letter templates as guides. Ideal for students with little or no experience writing resumes.  
  • Interview Skills (30min): Traditional presentation designed to cover the types of interviews that a student may encounter while preparing and practicing for them, questions to expect, non-verbal communication, and appropriate professional attire.  
  • Overview of Services (15min / 30min): A brief overview of the various services and online platforms that Career Services offers students and alumni. The 30 min version of this presentation will incorporate short demonstrations of online platforms such as Handshake and Big Interview.  
  • Professional Attire (15min): Overview of professional dress and ways UToledo can help students obtain professional clothing (Rocket Style Career Closet, JCP Suit-Up
  • Personal Branding (30min): Tips to help students identify their unique knowledge, skills, and experience and define their personal brand to help determine their niche to stand out to employers in a competitive employment environment.  
  • Networking (30min): Tips and strategies to help students make connections with professionals to obtain experiential learning and employment opportunities. Both in-person networking, such as job fairs and employer meet and greets, and online opportunities such as Linked-In and Rocket Connect will be discussed.  
  • Career Ready (45min): There are often a variety of careers available to students within a major. This presentation will give students tips and ideas to begin deciding which career is right for them. Topics such as researching careers and gaining experience within a profession of interest will be covered.  
  • Custom Presentation/ Workshop (TBD): Custom career-related presentations can be designed and presented to your class, organization, or event.  
    • You have the option to combine topics from above or request a presentation to cover other career-related issues such as transitioning from college to full-time employment, Job Search Techniques, How-to navigate a job/career fair, and more.  
    • Schedule a class tour of the Career Studio and Rocket Style Career Closet. Visit our office to hear an overview of services and/or take a tour of our facilities. This experience will teach your students how to use our services. (Unavailable due to Covid-19 restrictions)  
    • Work with Career Services to identify and contact employers and alumni who are willing to present to your students or offer information as part of a panel  

Please provide details for your request in the “Any other comments‚ special request or information” box when completing the presentation request form. Please be as detailed as possible and allow a minimum of a three-week lead time. The lead time will enable us to confirm and design your presentation.  

  • Event Participation (TBD): If you would like a Career Services professional to participate in your event as an addition to other activities, please select this option in the presentation request form. Also, provide full details of the event in the “Any other comments‚ special request or information” section.

Presentations are scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please give as much advance notice as possible to allow for customization and accommodate high demand. A minimum of three weeks' notice is preferred. 

A mediated classroom or a computer/projector set-up will be useful for our presentation.
