Common Education Interview Questions

Introductory Questions

• Tell me about yourself. 
• Why did you want to become an educator?
• What is your greatest strength and weakness as an educator?
• If you could teach any grade and subject, what would it be and why?
• What makes you a good fit for this job and our school district?

College and Student Teaching Questions

• What was the most useful college course you took and why?
• Describe your student teaching experience.
• What is the most important thing you learned from your cooperating teacher?
• What was the most important thing you learned from your overall student teaching experience?

Instructional and Classroom Management Questions

• Tell me what you do with students during the first few weeks of the school year to establish a positive classroom environment.
• Of academic rigor, relevance, and relationships, what is the most important to you and why?
• How do you engage students in their learning?
• How do you integrate technology into your lessons?
• How do you connect “real world” experience to your lessons?
• What does a well-disciplined classroom look and sound like?
• Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a challenging behavior student and how you handled the situation.
• What information does your daily lesson planning include (e.g., Bell Ringer, Learning Goals and Scale, Assignments, Model/Guided Practice)
• Tell me about a lesson that did not meet your expectations despite planning and preparation.
• Tell me what you do when a large number of students perform poorly on a formal assessment.
