Executive-In-Residence (EIR)

The UToledo Family Business Center Executive-In-Residence (EIR) is an executive expert who lends their specialized knowledge and experience to the Center and its members on a temporary and part-time basis.

Ideal Candidate

EIRs can be working, semi-retired or retired executives, or successful business owners who are recognized as significant leaders within their industries and meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Minimum of 20 years of increasing responsibility and acknowledged success in a specific industry or a demonstrated history of substantive entrepreneurial endeavors.
  • Prior experience with family businesses and with business schools or universities including teaching, writing, consulting, guest speaking and/or research, with specific focus in succession/transition planning and preparing the next generation.
  • Previous mentoring and/or consulting experience and knowledge of the regional family business community.

Responsibilities and Compensation

  • This is a one-year (beginning at the time of hire) contract position focused on next gen education through cohort-style learning.
  • The candidate will be responsible for building a model and framework for our next gen institute
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing content, presentations and learning material regarding succession and transition planning for our next gen rountable
  • The candidate will be required to connect with Center members on a monthly basis, with a minimum of eight times being in person in Toledo. Connections may be in the form of group presentations, facilitation of sessions, cohort style coaching, etc.
  • Continuous communication with Center staff required, including an in-depth onboarding meeting
  • The candidate will be asked to acknowledge the position on social media and post within reason about the role and topic, tagging the Center and relevant companies
  • Collaboration on an article with the Center Director
  • Compensation is $18,000 (with travel stipend) or $20,000 with no travel stipend. This is a contract position and does not include University benefits.
