2024-25 Graduate Assistantship for Higher Education Program Opening

Overview of Position 

The UToledo Higher Education Program is currently looking for a part-time master’s or doctoral-level graduate assistant for the 2024-2025 academic year. The John Russel Graduate Assistant plans Higher Education Program events for our currently enrolled graduate students, oversees marketing and recruitment efforts for the program (e.g., website and social media management), initiates alumni outreach, creates a program newsletter, manages the office email, assists the management of an online journal, and completes other tasks assigned by the program faculty members concerning the coordination of the higher education online master’s and doctoral programs (e.g., course planning).  

This part-time graduate assistant will be expected to work 10 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. An annual stipend of $6,500 as well as a tuition waiver of up to 6 hours per semester (i.e., fall and spring semesters) will accompany this position.

Start Date: August 2024     End Date: May 2025 (One year with renewal potential) 

Work Hours

  • 10 hours per week
  • Flexible schedule set by GA in consultation with Supervisor
  • Hours traditionally fall between 8:15 a.m. and 5 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
  • Potential for some weekend and evening hours at the discretion of Supervisor 

Compensation

  • Stipend: $6,500 total ($3,250 in Fall and $3,250 in Spring); Paid in equal installments biweekly
  • Tuition Scholarship: Up to 6 credit hours in both the Fall and Spring semesters (fees are not covered)

Responsibilities

  • Support faculty in managing the Higher Education Program (HEDP)
  • Manage HEDP website, social media, and email
  • Assist recruitment of students for Master's (M.Ed.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) in Higher Education degree programs
  • Create and distribute HEDP newsletter (2-4 times per semester)
  • Assist management of the online Studying the History of Higher Education (SHHE) Journal
  • Manage and update HEDP student and alumni database
  • Plan, publicize, and execute Distinguished Leader Dialogue Series 
  • Co-plan and produce HEDP graduation gathering once per semester (December and May)

Desired Qualifications and qualities

  • Pursuing or currently enrolled in a master's (M.Ed.) or doctoral (Ph.D.) degree program at UToledo (major in Higher Education preferred). 
  • Showcases evidence of initiative and ability to complete work independently and as a part of a team. 
  • Possesses the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively when assigned multiple tasks. 
  • Experience with marketing, student recruitment, social media management, and/or website development preferred. 
  • Experience with event planning preferred.
