Admission Requirements
Your path to becoming a respiratory care professional starts with a strong foundation at The University of Toledo. After completing the required prerequisite coursework, students apply to the upper-division professional respiratory care major, where they continue building the knowledge, skills and clinical experience needed for a career in respiratory care.
Admission to the professional major occurs once each year, with 25 seats available.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to apply, students must successfully complete all prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better.
Meeting the minimum requirements is an important first step and allows students to be considered for admission. Because admission to the professional major is selective, it does not guarantee placement in the program. The admissions committee reviews each applicant carefully and considers a range of qualities that support success in the program and in clinical healthcare settings.
Application Process
Students typically complete the application process during the spring semester of their sophomore year. The process includes:
- A writing sample
- A presentation
- A panel interview
Applicants are evaluated using a rubric that considers academic performance, interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, and professionalism.
Stay on Track
UToledo advisors work closely with students to help them understand the application timeline, complete prerequisite courses, and prepare for the selective admission process.
Students with questions about admission to the professional respiratory care major should contact their academic advisor or the Respiratory Care Program for the most current application details.
