Undergraduate Programs
Undergraduate programs offered by the Department of Psychology:
The purpose of these programs is to provide a rigorous and effective education designed to enhance the understanding of behavior through a solid foundation in basic psychological processes as well as in methods of research.
The centerpiece of these programs is intensive training and experience in all aspects of psychological inquiry through a series of research courses and practicum experiences. Individual independent projects with faculty supervision are encouraged for qualified students, as are small-group interactions with faculty members. These experiences provide a mechanism for developing critical thinking, analytic skills, and the exposition of ideas through oral presentation and scientific writing.
The Department's faculty represent a broad range of expertise within the field. As a result, the course work and research experiences available to students represent many domains of psychology including:
- Clinical Psychology
- Cognitive Psychology
- Developmental Psychology
- Social Psychology
- Psychobiology and Learning
Pipeline Programs
Get an early start to graduate school through our B.A. to M.A. pipeline programs. There are two program options:
- B.A. in Psychology to M.A. in School Psychology
- B.A. in Psychology to M.A. in Counselor Education (concentrations in clinical mental health counseling or school counseling)
Students admitted into the pipeline program will be allowed to complete graduate level courses in their final academic year of undergraduate studies. Application to the College of Graduate Studies must be completed the semester that the student intends to matriculate. They will then continue in the graduate program upon completion of the undergraduate degree requirements.
Psychology Degree Career Opportunities
Training in psychology provides a strong background for a variety of career opportunities in research, college/university teaching, clinical practice, medicine and law. Numerous opportunities also exist in government, business, and industry.
