Jason Steed graduated from the University of Texas School of Law and was a practicing appellate attorney in Texas for about 15 years, arguing cases in the First, Fourth, Fifth, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Circuits, and representing clients in state and federal courts across the country, including the Supreme Court of Texas, the Supreme Court of California, the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, the Supreme Court of Tennessee, the Supreme Court of Alaska, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Steed left private practice to join the University of Kentucky College of Law as a Visiting Professor in 2023, then joined the University of Toledo College of Law as an Assistant Professor in August 2025. Steed's scholarship focuses on the federal courts generally, and more specifically on the enforcement of constitutional rights in federal court. Steed is a member of the American Law Institute and part of the group working on the Restatement of the Law on Constitutional Torts. And he is a former English professor, holding an M.F.A. in creative writing and a Ph.D. in American literature, in addition to the J.D.
