Jacob "Jake" M. Ward is a registered patent attorney admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, in the State of Michigan, and before the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan. He is also a registered patent agent, non-resident, in Canada.
Ward is an adjunct professor at The University of Toledo College of Law, teaching in the areas of substantive patent law and patent practice. He also speaks extensively on intellectual property law issues to business, technical, and legal associations in the United States.
Ward is the founding member of Ward Law Office LLC in Tiffin, Ohio. His practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in various technical arts, including the mechanical, chemical, and electrical arts. Ward also prepares legal opinions in relation to patentability, infringement, patent validity, and freedom to practice. Furthermore, his practice includes preparation and prosecution of trademark applications, and the preparation of legal opinions in respect of trademark clearance and infringement.
Ward received a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from the University of Dayton and a juris doctor, cum laude, from The University of Toledo College of Law. At The University of Toledo, Ward was also awarded a certificate of concentration in intellectual property law. Additionally, he was a materials chemist in the tire and rubber industry for a number of years before commencing his legal practice.
Ward is also the founding author of the Anticipate This!™ | Patent and Trademark Law Blog, which provides light commentary on the practice of patent law, trademark law, and science and technology.
Ward is a member and former president (2008-09) of the Toledo Intellectual Property Law Association (TIPLA). He presently serves as the webmaster for the TIPLA website, which he developed and maintains on the association's behalf.
