Vernelis K. Armstrong
In 1994, Vernelis K. Armstrong became the first woman and the first African-American
to be appointed Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court, Northern District,
Western Division. She had previously served 15 years as an Assistant United States
Attorney. An active leader in the bench and bar, Magistrate Judge Armstrong has received
awards from the legal community and the community at large for her accomplishments
and devotion to the law and has been honored in the Congressional Record.
