Julia Bates
In 1996, Julia Bates became the first woman elected Lucas County Prosecutor. Prior
to her election, she had been an assistant prosecutor since 1976. She also became
the first woman elected president of the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association in
2003. Her leadership in the community has earned her national recognition as well
as awards locally and statewide. Among other accomplishments, she established a Cold
Case Squad, which has successfully prosecuted numerous previously unsolved cases.
