Clara Millard
(1872-1952)
Clara Millard received a law degree from St. John’s University Law School in Toledo
in 1911. She is thought to be the first woman in Ohio to receive a law degree. Also
in 1911, she became the first woman in Northwest Ohio to pass the Ohio Bar Exam. Clara
Millard practiced law for 42 years with her brother. She served as the head deputy
of the Lucas County Probate Court for twenty years and was a member of both the Toledo
Bar and the Lucas County Bar Associations.
