Upcoming Sessions
April 18, 2025
Making the Case for Case-Based Learning in Medical Education
Wendy Lackey-Cornelison, Ph.D. Associate Professor/Assistant Dean for Pre-Clinical Integration
Chris Prevette, Assistant Director Instructional Design and Academic Technology
This interactive session will introduce faculty to the Case-Based Learning (CBL) instructional method as implemented in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Participants will explore the defining characteristics of CBL, identify the essential components of a successful session, and examine how CBL differs from traditional methods such as lectures and large group discussions.
The session will guide faculty in the design of engaging CBL sessions that promote critical thinking and application of knowledge in clinical contexts. Faculty will also discover how Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can support the creation and customization of CBL content—from generating case scenarios to drafting learning objectives and additional study material. Attendees will leave with a practical CBL session template and examples of AI-generated prompts they can adapt for use in their own teaching.
Whether you're new to CBL or looking to refine your approach, this session will offer valuable strategies and tools to enhance student engagement and instructional efficiency.
