Divisions: Hematology/Oncology

The Division of Hematology/Oncology at the Alan W. and Deborah J. Brass Children's Cancer Center, located within the ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children's Hospital, provides comprehensive, compassionate care and support for children diagnosed with cancer, blood disorders, and bone marrow failure syndromes. Our team cares for children and young adults with a focus on their individual medical and emotional needs. From the initial diagnosis through recovery and beyond, our team remains a steady source of guidance and support for families.

Our pediatric cancer center is the region’s only institution affiliated with the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), the largest international organization dedicated solely to pediatric cancer research and clinical trials.

Our faculty also oversee the Pediatric Sickle Cell Clinic, providing comprehensive management that includes prophylactic antibiotics, immunizations, strokerisk assessments, and access to hydroxyurea and other newer sickle cell treatments. The clinic also offers counseling for families following abnormal newborn screening results, sickle cell trait, thalassemia, or other hemoglobin variants, in coordination with the Region III Ohio Department of Health Newborn Screening Coordinator.

Education is also central to our mission. The division trains medical students and residents in the full spectrum of pediatric hematology/oncology, emphasizing both the scientific complexity of these conditions and the compassionate, familycentered care required to support children facing serious illness.
