Medical Student Clerkship: Surgery Conferences

Quality Improvement Conference/M&M is on Wednesdays at 7:00 a.m.

Quality Improvement Conference/M&M is a case presentation given by the surgical residents and moderated by the surgical attendings. A cumulative database of all complications and causes of death in patients admitted to the surgical services is discussed. This tool can assist in the description of natural history and management issues, direct discussions designed to establish the cause of complications or deaths, as well as illuminate potential methods to avoid future recurrences. All deaths and morbidities are discussed as well as interesting cases on the various services.


Grand Rounds is on Wednesdays at 8:00 a.m.

Grand Rounds is a series of lectures given by faculty experts or visiting professors consisting of in-depth discussion of a subject pertinent to the discipline of surgery.


Journal Club is on Wednesdays at 8:00 a.m.

Once a month in place of Grand Rounds
Journal Club is where the surgical residents meet to present recent articles in the academic literature, such as the scientific literature, medical literature or philosophy literature. The articles are reviewed and critiqued by faculty members to offer a unique educational discussion.


Medical Student Video Conferences are on Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m.

Blackboard Collaborate
Medical Student Video conference is designed to be at the M3 medical student level. It is centered around case based discussions on topics relevant to the Surgery Clerkship and practical application. View topics.
