General Information About the Program

Our postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology adheres to Houston conference guidelines and is a member in good standing of both APPCN (APPCN.org) and APPIC (APPIC.org). The fellowship is housed at the University of Toledo Medical Center of the(UTMC). This is a lifespan fellowship, with patients aged 7 to geriatric served.
Primary clinical and research activities are conducted in the Neuropsychology Clinic (https://utmc.utoledo.edu/centers/rehab/Neuropsychology.html) within the Rehabilitation Services at UTMC, a hospital in Toledo, Ohio that is a Level 2 Trauma Center and a designated Primary Stroke Center. On the campus of UTMC, there is also a 42-bed rehabilitation hospital (Rehabilitation Hospital of Northwest Ohio) that provides rehabilitation services for patients with traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury.
The University of Toledo has two campuses: the Health Science Campus, which includes UTMC and also offers academic programs for physicians, nurses, and physician’s assistants; and the Main Campus, which offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs including doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy and a graduate program in Speech Therapy.
The fellowship is administered through Rehabilitation Services and the Department of Psychiatry of UTMC, which is under the auspices of the University of Toledo. UTMC provides the financial support for the fellowship. The fellow's formal appointment is as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toledo.
Our fellowship prepares you for licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Ohio (please check the requirements of the state in which you plan to practice).

STATE OF OHIO: Application for a Psychologist License in the state of Ohio
EPPP admission. Candidates can be admitted to the EPPP upon receipt of the application/fee and a transcript showing a qualifying doctoral degree in psychology or school psychology.
Degree and 3,600 hour supervised training requirements. The primary requirements are a doctoral degree in psychology or school psychology from an institution accredited by a "national or regional accrediting agency" defined as: Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools - Commission on Higher Education; New England Association of Schools and Colleges; Higher Learning Commission (North Central Association of Colleges and Schools); Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges; Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; Western Association of Schools and Colleges - Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges. The law requires a qualifying doctoral internship as part of the degree requirements—no less than 1,500 hours and no greater than 2,000 hours accrued in a period of no less than nine months (school psychology doctorates) and no more than 24 months. Internship supervision/training criteria must be met for non-accredited/non-APPIC member internships.
Non-accredited degree programs. Candidates with degrees from doctoral programs not accredited (e.g. APA) are required to demonstrate 3,600 hours of supervised training, at least 1,800 hours of which shall be post-doctoral.
Options for graduates of accredited degree programs. Because the pre-doctoral internship may be between 1,500 hours and 2,000 hours, the number of internship hours completed, when subtracted from 3,600, will determine the remainder of the hours required to demonstrate completion of the sequence of training. These non-internship hours can be completed either before the internship, after the internship (including post-doc), or in combination. For example, a candidate completing a 2,000-hour internship will need to evidence 1,600 additional qualifying hours to complete the 3,600-hour sequence, while a candidate completing a 1,500-hour internship will need to evidence 2,100 additional qualifying hours to complete the sequence.
The 3,600-hour sequence of training may be satisfied by completing an internship and by:
- Showing evidence of supervised training experience(s) after the internship (which may be pre-doctoral or post-doctoral), meeting requirements found in Board rules.
- Showing evidence of qualifying doctoral program (practicum) training placements which
must comply with requirements found in Board rules and are qualifying only after the
following prerequisites were satisfied:
- Graduate academic coursework of a minimum of forty-eight semester hours or seventy-two quarter hours; and
- Introductory practicum experience(s) in applied professional psychology of a minimum duration of 400 hours.
Therefore, accredited doctoral program candidates earning the doctoral degree with less than 3,600 qualifying hours will be required to complete post-doctoral training in compliance with the new rules until the minimum 3,600-hour sequence is completed.
