Toledo Starz
Toledo Starz is an after-school enrichment program for high school students, particularly those who are of a low social economic status or disadvantaged (see criteria below), who have an interest in the health professions. There is no cost to the student to participate in the program.
This unique seven-month program brings health sciences alive and is geared for students who have a motivated interest in pursuing health science careers. The students from Toledo area high schools are invited to participate in a series of monthly sessions, which are held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Accepted students attend monthly sessions, during which they explore medical issues and various roles involved within the healthcare process presented by UToledo faculty, staff and students.
Participants also participate in the Super Starz Spring Symposium where students present a thoroughly research project and graduate in April. The program was launched in fall 2006.
Mission Statement
Toledo Starz is committed to empowering high school students from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds with a passion for the health sciences by offering dynamic, after-school enrichment opportunities. Through hands-on learning experiences, mentorship, and exposure to real-world medical environments, we aim to nurture students' curiosity, foster academic and professional growth, and provide them with the tools and guidance needed to pursue successful careers in healthcare. Our goal is to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the broader field of medicine.
