Academic Administrative Professional Development Program

About Academic Administrative Professional Development Program

The Academic Administrative Professional Development Program (AAPD) provides professional development, communication, and networking opportunities for Academic Administrative Professionals across Academic Affairs at The University of Toledo.

AAPD connects employees with university offices, resources, and subject-matter experts while providing practical information that supports the day-to-day work of colleges and academic departments.

The program is coordinated through Academic Affairs and includes a combination of Administrative Operations Forums and professional development workshops throughout the academic year.

Program Goals

Communication: Provide a consistent way for university offices and service areas to share important updates, changes, resources, and upcoming priorities with Academic Administrative Professionals.

Professional Development: Offer practical learning opportunities that strengthen institutional knowledge, administrative skills, and understanding of university processes.

Community: Create opportunities for Academic Administrative Professionals across colleges and departments to build relationships, share knowledge, and connect with colleagues and university resources.

Continuity: Establish an ongoing professional development program that provides consistent opportunities for learning and communication throughout the year.

Who Academic Administrative Professional Development Program Serves

AAPD programming is designed for employees who provide administrative, operational, financial, and academic support within Academic Affairs.

Participants may include administrative assistants, secretaries, coordinators, office managers, executive assistants, administrative managers, Associate Business Managers, Business Managers, Senior Business Managers, Academic Finance staff, and employees serving in similar administrative roles.

Individual sessions may be especially relevant to employees who regularly work with the processes or offices featured in that program.

Administrative Operations Forums

AAPD will host three in-person Administrative Operations Forums each year. Forums provide timely university updates, introduce campus resources, and connect Academic Administrative Professionals with offices and individuals who support academic operations. Learn more.

Fall Semester — University Updates, Academic Priorities & Planning

The Fall Semester Forum focuses on major Academic Affairs priorities, university initiatives, and operational updates that Academic Administrative Professionals should be aware of as the academic year begins.

Spring Semester — Student Support, Philanthropy & Academic Resources

The Spring Semester Forum focuses on university resources that support students and academic units, along with enrollment and student-success information.

Summer Semester — Fiscal Year-End, Event Planning & Operational Readiness

The Summer Semester Forum combines year-end operational information with resources that help academic units successfully close the fiscal year and prepare for the upcoming academic year.

Professional Development Workshops

AAPD workshops provide more detailed training on university processes, systems, and professional skills. Workshop delivery format will be determined by the presenter based on the topic and presenter preference. Sessions may be offered virtually or in person, and recording availability will also be determined by the presenter.  Learn more.

Upcoming Programs

Upcoming AAPD Forums and Workshops will be listed here as dates, times, locations, and delivery formats are confirmed. Workshop dates and times may be adjusted based on presenter availability.

Attending AAPD Programs

Meeting invitations for AAPD Forums and Workshops will be sent through the Academic Administrative Professionals email list. Employees can respond to the Outlook invitation to indicate whether they plan to attend. No separate program registration is required.
