Faculty Professional Development Fund

 

Purpose

  • To provide funds for faculty development.
  • To provide assistance with expenses related to conference travel and professional events in cases where grant funding or other resources are not sufficient.
  • To enhance the reputation of the University of Toledo in the greater research community.

General Information

  • There will be a source of funds available for both fall 2023 and spring 2024; each pool of funds will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • These funds will be awarded primarily for the purpose of supporting travel and costs associated with presentations at conferences and meetings.
  • Funding should be requested as a supplement to department and college funding or after those funds are exhausted.
  • There is a limit of $500 (exceptions may be allowed for up to $750, but only in very limited cases with exceptional rationale).
  • Faculty are eligible to receive funding on a biennial basis from this process.  Meaning a faculty member will not be eligible to receive funds on a yearly basis from the provost faculty professional development.
  • Applications and materials must be received at least 30 days prior to travel.

Selection Criteria

  • Priority will be given to supporting those progressing in rank; however members at any rank may apply for consideration
  • Importance and quality of event; benefit to recipient and to UToledo
  • Active participation in meeting or conference (talk or poster presentation)
  • Availability of sufficient supporting funds from other sources

Application Requirements

Apply via the online application with the required information:

  • A description of the professional development opportunity and how this opportunity aligns with the purpose of the award as described above.
  • If you are requesting funds to support a presentation at a conference or meeting, you must include a copy of your acceptance letter or email.
  • An expense budget for the opportunity highlighting the dollar amount you are requesting to be funded; other sources of support, including funds from department and/or college, should also be noted.  Note if you have already exhausted your department and college funding.

Application Process 

  • Complete and submit the  online application with all required information.
  • Incomplete applications will be returned without consideration.
  • Response is usually provided within two weeks of application submission.
