CITI Account Set Up for IACUC Training

This information will help you set up an account in CITI for your mandatory IACUC training. CITI accounts are free for all UToledo faculty, staff and students.


how to establish a citi account and register for courses

  1. Proceed to the CITI website at www.citiprogram.org
  2. Click on the "Register" button and complete steps 1 - 7
    1. STEP 1: Organization Affiliation - Select Your Organization Affiliation type "University of Toledo". The agree to the terms of service and click on the affirmation that you are an affiliate of University of Toledo. Click on the Create a CITI Account button.
      DO NOT select Independent Learner Registration. You will be charged $110 that is non-refundable fee. Neither CITI or UToledo will refund any fees paid to CITI.
    2. STEP 2: Personal Information - Enter your first and last name and a primary email address. You may also enter a secondary email address. You primary email address must match the email used in IRB Manager. Click on Continue to Step 3 button.
    3. STEP 3: Create User Name, Password and Select Security Question - Create you user name (use your UTAD) and password. Select a security question and enter the answer. Click on Continue to Step 4 button.
    4. STEP 4: Country of Residence - Select your country of residence. Then answer "No" to the two survey questions. Click on Continue to Step 5 button.
    5. STEP 5: CEU's - CEU's are available for those in medical fields. Answer "NO" if you do not want to earn CEUs. You can always change your answer later. Answer "YES" if you are eligible and would like to earn CEU's for your CITI course work and select the type of credit you would like to earn. There are fees associated with the CEU credits. These fees are your responsiblity and will not be refunded by CITI or UToledo. Click on Continue to Step 6 button.
    6. STEP 6: UToledo Required Information - Please enter the information for the boxes with a red asterisk (*). Be sure to include the R and all 8 digits of your Rocket ID Number. Click on Continue to Step 7 button.
    7. STEP 7: Select Curriculum - Select the second option "Yes, I conduct research or teaching activities that utilizes live, animal subjects or tissues derived from live animal subjects." Answer the several questions that will help add the correct courses to your account.
      • COVID-19: Answer "NO". Answering "YES" will add multiple courses to your account that are not required for you to take. Access to the COVID-19 courses will go away in March, 2023. Click the "NEXT" button.
      • IACUC Membership: If you are a member of the UToledo IACUC, you are required to take this course. If you are an IACUC member, select "YES". If you are not an IACUC member, select "NO". Click the "NEXT" button.
      • Surgical Procedures on Laboratory Animals: Select "NO". UToledo DLAR does Aseptic Techniques as an in-person training taught by the DLAR Director and Attending Veterinarian, Dr. Lisa Root. You may register for the Aseptic Techniques course via UToledo Test Bank. Click the "NEXT" button.
      • Select Animal Training: There are several options to choose from. Select the animal training you will be utilizing for your research purposes. If your research involves prairie voles, select the Mice training. Click the "NEXT" button.
      • IACUC Chair Course: Answer "NO" unless you are the IACUC Chair. Click the "NEXT" button.
      • Institutional Official or Signatory: If you are an Institutional Official or Signatory - Select "Insitutional Official: Animal Care and Use. Otherwise, please select "Not at this time". Click the "NEXT" button.
      • Congratulations - you have added the courses to your account. Complete the training, added to your account.

frequently asked questions

I have an account from another institution. do i need a new account?

No - you do not need a new account. Simply log into your account, affiliate with "University of Toledo". The agree to the terms of service and click on the affirmation that you are an affiliate of University of Toledo. You will also need to update your UToledo required information. You need to do this in order to have previously taken courses transfer between institutions. 

My training is not updating in IRB manager. What should i do?

Make sure your primary email address and secondary email address are the same as what is in IRB Manager. This is how our systems communicate.

I have training from another institution. How do i get that to populate in my UToledo affiliation?
  • Make sure you affiliate your exisiting CITI account with UToledo. The courses can't move between separate accounts, only separate affiliations.
  • Add the course(s) required by UToledo to you University of Toledo affiliated CITI acccount. Your completed modules will automatically upload if they have not expired.
  • Complete any required modules that did not automatically load.
  • Keep in mind, training is not the same between institutions. The UToledo IACUC may have different requirements than your previous institution so there may still be modules you need to complete.

i selected the wrong course. How do I delete a course from my account?
  • Go to "Learner Tools for University of Toledo"
  • Click on "Remove a Course"
  • Select the course(s) you would like to remove. Click the SUBMIT button.
  • BE CAREFUL! If you select a course that was completed and accidentally remove it, you must retake the course. Scores and courses are removed.

how do i add a course?
  • Go to "Learner Tools for University of Toledo"
  • Click on "Add a Course"
  • Follow the steps to add a course.

do i need to notify you that i have completed the course?

No.
CITI contacts UToledo early in the morning each day with the names and courses of those who completed training the day before. This is why it is important that your primary email in CITI matches the email address in IRB Manager.

i can't remember my User Name or password. how do I get help with this?
  • User Name
    Contact Gary Rafe at 419.530.2227 or email him at CITISupport@UToledo.edu and request your user name. As long as your account is affiliated with UToledo, he can look up your user name. 
  • Password
    Contact Gary Rafe at 419.530.2227 or email him at CITISupport@UToledo.edu and request your password. If you account is affiliated with UToledo, he can log in and trigger a password reset. You will then receive an email from CITI to reset your password.
  • Not Affiliated with UToledo
    You will need to contact CITI directly.
