Alcohol Standard Serving Size

Knowing what constitutes a standard serving size of alcohol is an important part of engaging in responsible drinking. It helps you keep track of how much alcohol you have had and can assist in tracking your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC).

BeerWine Cooler A standard serving size of beer or wine cooler is 12 oz.
Wine

A standard serving size of wine is 5 oz.

*A 750 ml bottle should serve 5 glasses.

Malt Liquor A standard serving size of ice beer or malt liquor is 8 oz.
Liquor A standard serving size of liquor is 1.5 oz (80-proof*) or 1 oz (100-proof*).
Mixed Drinks

Mixed drinks are unpredictable and may contain more than one standard drink.  A long island iced tea, for example, likely includes 4-6 servings of alcohol.

*Proof: is used to describe the amount of alcohol in a drink. Proof is twice the percentage of alcohol, so an 80 proof liquor is 40% alcohol by volume.
