Choosing and Declaring Your Major
Choosing or Changing Majors:
Deciding on a major or career path is an important and sometimes daunting task. It
is not uncommon for students who were once sure of their intended major to change
one or several times to a new one. For family members, it is difficult to watch your
formerly focused and decisive students become uncertain and confused about whether
their interests and abilities are best addressed by the chosen major.
Students are encouraged to seek advice from their academic advisers, instructors, faculty members in a variety of disciplines, departmental directors of undergraduate disciplines, other students, career services staff or other staff members in student services offices. In deciding on a major, students are encouraged to take advantage of the services offered by the undergraduate advisers in the various college Student Service Offices and by the Career Services office, which offers career counseling and assessments to help determine aptitude and interests.
Changing Colleges Within The University of Toledo:
Students in good standing who wish to change from one college within The University
of Toledo to another perspective college should make an appointment with a college
adviser in the College Student Services Office to discuss their transfer and have
their academic records reviewed. All college requirements, including core and distributive
as well as major and related requirements, must be fulfilled as specified in the catalog
for the year in which the student enters the college of their choice. Some colleges
have selective admission or deadlines for an intended major. These deadlines are strictly
enforced.
*To declare a major or change one previously declared, students must have an adviser fill out a Change of College form.
