University Police

Timely Warning Archive (2008-2009)

Timely Warnings are communications required by the Clery Act, alerting the student body, faculty and staff to an act of violence that has taken place on campus.

However, symbolic of the University of Toledo's commitment to safety, education and transparency, the University of Toledo Police Department (UTPD) takes a broader approach to the requirements of the Clery Act and provides information about incidents adjacent to campus as well. Safety alerts received from UTPD do not necessarily reflect an increase in crime levels. Rather, we feel a broad and liberal distribution allows students to make more informed choices regarding personal safety and provide an opportunity to share safety information.

Every attempt is made to distribute the alert within 48 hours of the time the incident is reported; however, the release of the crime alert is subject to the availability of facts concerning the incident. The decision to issue a crime alert shall be decided on a case by case basis in light of all the facts surrounding a crime, including factors such as the nature of the crime, the continuing danger to the campus community, and the possible risk of compromising law enforcement efforts.

An alert is distributed by email and can be found at www.police.utoledo.edu. In certain circumstances, a bulletin will also be distributed around the campus area on bulletin boards. The following is an archive of recent timely warnings issued by UTPD.
