TRIUMPH Mentorship Program

Undergraduate Mentorship Program for Students

Program Purpose and Goal

Purpose To assist students from various backgrounds in psychology-oriented graduate programs and fields.

Goal To help these students identify their professional goals in psychology or related fields and be poised for success with applying to graduate programs and/or professional careers.

TRIUMPH Details

TRIUMPH is designed for you to join in your Sophomore or Junior year. Your membership in the program continues all the way through graduate school applications. You will be paired with a Department of Psychology faculty mentor and a mentor who is a PhD graduate student in our psychology program. You will (1) attend monthly one-on-one meetings with your mentors, who will guide you in developing experience relevant for applying to graduate school, (2) attend monthly group meetings with everyone in the TRIUMPH program, and (3) gain weekly research experience in a faculty member's research lab.

You will gain expertise in two of three areas over the course of the first year: (1) literature expertise (learn about a topic area that you are interested in), and either (2a) research expertise (for example, attending a conference or developing a poster to present at a local or national conference), or (2b) practice expertise (for example, completing a guided internship-like experience in the community). You will build on these areas of expertise in later years of the program. Course credit will not be provided for this program. However, you may be able to obtain course credit by participating in certain parts of the program (e.g., either working in a lab or doing a community internship).

TRIUMPH Eligibility

You are eligible to apply if you meet all criteria 1-5. 

1. You are currently enrolled in classes at UToledo.
2. You are a psychology major or plan to be a psychology major.
3. You aspire to attend a psychology-oriented graduate program.
4. You have not yet completed your Junior year (i.e., you have at least a year and a half left).
5. You have a minimum 3.0 psychology G.P.A.
