John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation

Bachelor of Business Administration

The University of Toledo's College of Business and Innovation's undergraduate program combines a well-rounded education with development of managerial and decision-making skills.

The objectives of that program are to provide:

  1. Abroad liberal arts background
  2. Broad training in business functions
  3. In-depth knowledge in an area of specialization

The general education component is taught predominantly in the College of Arts and Sciences; the business education component predominantly by the CBA. Within the business college, students complete a core of required business courses and select from among the following specializations:

  • Accounting
  • Business Economics
  • Entrepreneurship, Family and Small Business
  • Finance
  • Financial Services
  • Human Resource Management
  • Information Systems
  • International Business
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Operations Management
  • Organizational Leadership and Management
  • Professional Sales
  • Purchasing and Supply Management

The business curriculum moves through a broad liberal arts background through a general core of business courses to a specific area of specialization. During the freshman and sophomore years, students take courses in English composition, mathematics, social sciences, humanities and natural sciences. As sophomores, they mesh several basic business courses with the arts and sciences requirements.

Progression into the upper division or junior year is not automatic. Application is made during the last quarter of the sophomore year. Students with a 2.25+ cumulative GPA after at least 60 hours, and 2.25+ lower division subset GPA in the following courses: BUAD 1010; BUAD 2060/2070; BUAD 2040/2050; BUAD 2080 will be automatically accepted. Other students will be considered on an individual basis. (2006-2008 Checksheet)

The business core courses begin during the junior year. It is at this point that a student selects his/her area of specialization or major, which is completed throughout the junior and senior years. However, some students wait until they have "tested out" a few of the required core courses before selecting their major.
