Practical work experience provides a flexible way for students to gain real-world experience without earning academic credit. These opportunities allow students to explore career interests, develop professional skills and build connections with employers — making them an excellent option for students looking to gain experience early in their college journey.
Internships for Course Credit
Earn Credit While Gaining Experience
Internships for course credit allow business students who have declared their major and met eligibility requirements to gain real-world experience while earning academic credit toward their degree. These structured experiences provide the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting, develop career-ready skills and build connections with employers while making progress toward graduation.
Preparing For Your Internship
Deciding to do an internship during your college is a great step and way to xyz. Before you start your search, here are a few things to consider
- Review Your Resume - A polished resume is one of the most important tools in your internship search. Stop by the Business Career Programs Office for personalized feedback or attend an upcoming resume review event.
- Update Your LinkedIn Profile - Your LinkedIn profile is an extension of your resume. Keep it up to date with your experiences, skills and accomplishments so employers can learn more about your background.
- Do Your Research on Employers - Take time to learn about an organization's mission, culture and career opportunities before attending a career fair, networking event or interview. Doing your research will help you ask informed questions, make meaningful connections and leave a lasting impression on employers.
- Get a New Headshot - A professional headshot helps you make a strong first impression on LinkedIn, Handshake and other professional platforms. Students can use the free self-service headshot booth located in the Rocket Career Center (Student Union 1550) to take a professional photo whenever they need one.
- Get Professional Clothing - Professional attire helps you make a strong first impression at career fairs, interviews and networking events. Students can shop the Rocket Style Career Closet, located in the Rocket Career Center (Student Union Room 1550), once per semester at no cost.
- Attend a Mock Interview - Practice answering common interview questions and receive personalized feedback from the Business Career Programs Office. Mock interviews help you build confidence and prepare for conversations with employers.
- Follow Up with Employers - A thoughtful follow-up email after a career fair, networking event or interview reinforces your interest, demonstrates professionalism and helps you stay top of mind with employers.

SkillsFirst - SkillsFirst is a free resource for University of Toledo John B. & Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation students that offers a complete set of career preparation tools to help you navigate the hiring funnel and land a job including key-word optimized resumes and cover letters, developing an elevator pitch, video curriculum and interview practice skills and building a career portfolio.
GoingGlobal - GoinGlobal includes worldwide job openings, internship listing, industry profiles, and country-specific career and employment information. More than 80,000 pages of constantly updated content are included on topics such as work permits/visa regulations, résumé/CV writing guidelines and examples, employment trends, salary ranges, networking groups and cultural/interviewing advice.
