Students Dive into Data at UToledo's Supply Chain & Analytics Summer Camp
June 13, 2024 | On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation at The University of Toledo hosted 14 high school students to participate in a Supply Chain & Analytics Summer Camp.
This one-day event offered a comprehensive introduction to the dynamic fields of business
analytics and supply chain management.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the students engaged in a series of hands-on activities and interactive games designed to illuminate the skills required for success in these industries.
"We designed this camp to spark students' interest in supply chain and analytics careers,” said Dr. Hao-Wei Chen, assistant professor of supply chain management and the Supply Chain & Analytics Camp director.
“It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and curiosity as they tackled real-world challenges. Our goal was to make learning both fun and engaging, and I believe we achieved that."
The camp provided an opportunity for young learners to delve into the world of business analytics and supply chain optimization.
Participants tackled the Root Beer Distribution Game and the Burrito Truck Optimization Game, which highlighted the complexities of managing supply chains and the importance of strategic planning.
Additionally, workshops such as "The Art of Data Visualization" and "The Power of
Forecasting" equipped students with essential analytical tools and techniques.
The event also included opportunities for students to connect with University of Toledo business professors, offering insights into academic pathways and career possibilities within the business sector.
A tour of the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation rounded out the day, showcasing the state-of-the-art facilities available to future students.
