ABOUT THE VIRTUAL CODE CART

VCC Scene Overview
The majority of hospitals, clinics, and patient care facilities rely on the expertise and proficiency of their medical personnel to respond accurately and quickly during a cardiac episode.  Time is of the essence and coordinating efforts of medical responders during this event are vitally important in assuring favorable results.

Code carts are an essential component during this time as they contain the important supplies, equipment, and medication required for personnel to provide immediate assistance. It is essential that all medical personnel involved be competent and proficient when identifying the correct drawer and location of the essential medication, equipment, and supplies in a timely manner.  The difference between knowing and not knowing can result in a life lost or saved.

To remain familiar and proficient, medical personnel need to review and regain familiarity with the contents of their facilities' code cart. This review process is usually an operation of staff development and requires the complication of scheduled group meetings which takes time away from patient care.

In an attempt to facilitate this review process, the University of Toledo created The Virtual Code Cart. This new educational, software simulation provides medical personnel access to a virtual code cart with all of the essential medications, supplies, and equipment.  The Virtual Code Cart is an interactive, self-paced training simulation that promotes knowledge and recognition of a code cart's contents while building proficiency and enhanced performance during an actual code cart operation.
