The University of Toledo Commencement

Public Health Precautions

The University of Toledo will strongly enforce public health measures and procedures that must be followed for the safety of everyone at all commencement or convocation ceremonies.

  • Face covering must be worn at all times unless a student is having their professional photograph taken at a designated area, or an individual is at the podium reading. Anyone not wearing a face covering will be asked to leave the event.
  • Graduating students should hold their name cards up to be swiped or to be read. Staff will not handle these cards.
  • Staff reading student’s names or who are in close proximity (less than 6 ft) of the students as they are entering the ramp/stage will be wearing a surgical grade face covering and a face shield.
  • Cleaning supplies will be used to clean any shared equipment including microphones and podiums between use.
  • Hand sanitizer will be readily available for the platform party, staff working the event and students after their professional photograph. Additional hand sanitizer dispensers are located throughout Savage Arena for guests.
  • There should be no handshaking or hugging between the platform party and students.
  • The self-service table holding the diplomas will be wiped down several times during the ceremony.
  • Programs will be pre-placed on student chairs and will not be distributed to guests.
