Elections for the U.W.C. Board

Nominations and elections for the UWC board will be held annually via paper, electronic communication, or digital form as deemed appropriate by the Board.  Board members will be elected by a simple majority of votes cast. Absentee ballots will be accepted.

Nominations:

  • Prior to nominations being accepted, a call for nominations for the upcoming board vacancies shall be distributed to the UWC general membership along with an announcement as to when and how nominations can be made.
  • Nominations will be accepted annually by ballot, whether in paper form or cast electronically, April 15 through May 1.
  • Self-nominations will be accepted.
  • Between May 2 and May 9 annually, nominees will be contacted to confirm their agreement with the nomination and to request a bio and photo to distribute ahead of elections.

Elections:

  • Prior to elections beginning, a list of candidates with bios/photos will be distributed to the UWC general membership along with an announcement as to when and how votes can be cast.
  • Elections will take place annually during the third or fourth week of May.

Board Notes:

  • All Board positions begin on June 1 and end on May 31.
    • Executive positions shall be served for a term of two (2) years.
    • At-Large positions shall be served for a term of one (1) year.
  • For continuity, Executive position elections shall alternate as follows:
    • Odd numbered years: President, Treasurer, Marketing & Communications.
    • Even numbered years: Vice President, Secretary

Vice President Candidate:

Jennifer Joe

 

Jennifer Joe is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Engagement Librarian at the University of Toledo. She also serves as the library liaison to Sociology and Anthropology and Women’s and Gender Studies. Her degrees are from Indiana University (Master of Library Science, 2010) and Western Kentucky University (Master of Arts in Sociology, 2011). 

 

She is in the incoming Faculty Council Chair for University Libraries, the University Student Grievance Committee Chair, and chairs a committee of the Association of College and Research Libraries as well as serving in governance for the American Library Association. As person in a female dominated profession that still tends to have men in administrative roles, she tirelessly advocates for a better balance in the power structures of her profession and mentors students to challenge those power structures.


Secretary Candidate:

Tiffany Wang

Tiffany R. Wang, Ph.D., is the Writing Center Coordinator at The University of Toledo, managing tutors, curriculum, outreach, and supporting graduate students and faculty. She earned her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Writing from Bowling Green State University in 2017.

 

Her background includes teaching at UToledo and Bowling Green State University, and seven years in Public Relations in the tech industry, where she handled B2B relationships, contracts, and marketing. She also serves on the Midstory Board and advises a student wellness organization at the University.

 

Members at Large Candidates:

Anne Bennett

 

Anne Bennett is a Program Manager in the Center for International Studies and Programs and works mainly on student and employee immigration.  She has been working in this position for 5 years.  She also worked briefly in Carlson Library at the Reference Desk and as an English Teacher in the American Language Institute. 

 

Anne is from Michigan but has also worked and lived in Massachusetts, New York, Washington DC, California, Marshall Islands, and England, serving in mostly educational positions. 

Jennifer Archer

 

Jennifer Archer is the Director of Community Engagement and Impact at UToledo Health, where she works to connect healthcare with the real needs and lived experiences of the community. Her work focuses on building trust, reducing barriers to care, addressing food security, and helping individuals and families access Medicaid and other essential supports.

At UToledo Health, Jennifer has supported the development of the Mobile Health Unit and helped build partnerships that bring health education, resources, and care closer to people and neighborhoods across northwest Ohio. Before joining UToledo Health, she served as Senior Director of Communications and Engagement at United Way of Greater Toledo, where her work included community response efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also previously served as Executive Director of the Sylvania Community Arts Commission.

Jennifer currently co-chairs Healthy Lucas County and serves on the boards of Sylvania Area Family Services and the Epilepsy Center of Northwest Ohio. She is a certified Mental Health First Aid and Youth Mental Health First Aid trainer and is committed to food equity, mental health, epilepsy awareness, and community resilience. She earned her Master of Business Administration from The University of Toledo in spring 2026.

Jennifer believes strong communities are built when people are listened to, systems are easier to navigate, and institutions use their resources in ways that reflect the realities of the people they serve. Her work is rooted in access, dignity, and action, and in the belief that no one should have to navigate complex systems alone.

Sierra Grant

 

Sierra Grant is a 32-year-old mother of three boys from Toledo, Ohio, balancing motherhood, personal growth, and career goals simultaneously. She currently works as a medical assistant at the UT Orthopedic Center, where she has been employed for one year, and brings over nine years of experience as a medical assistant overall. She will begin pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration at the University of Toledo on May 18, 2026.

 

Sierra joined the University Women’s Commission (UWC) in November 2025 to connect with other driven and inspiring women while continuing her personal and professional growth. Growing up, she participated in basketball, track, and cross country; maintained a GPA above 3.5; played AAU travel girls’ basketball; and was inducted into the National Honor Society in junior high both years.

 

She enjoys helping others, spending time with her children, exploring music and cities, and has a deep love for food. Sierra strives to continue evolving and consistently challenges herself to step outside her comfort zone.

Jess Sobolewski

 

Jess Sobolewski is a Senior Benefits Administration Specialist in Total Rewards and has been part of the University of Toledo community for the past five years. As a proud UToledo alumna, the university holds a special place for her, and she truly enjoys the opportunity to give back to a place that helped shape her career.

 

In her role, Jess works closely with faculty and staff, helping them understand and navigate their benefits and wellness programs, and making sure they feel supported along the way. She is passionate about serving the UToledo community and would be honored to contribute her experience and perspective as a member of the Women’s Commission.

Jolene Miller

 

During her time at the University, Jolene Miller has been mentored by women within her library, across campus, and throughout the University as a whole. That chain of support continues through her own mentoring of students, staff, and faculty. Serving as a Member-at-Large on the University Women’s Commission is a natural extension of this commitment—supporting students’ educational goals, honoring employees for their leadership and service, and planning activities that create opportunities for members to network.

 

Jolene has worked at the Mulford Health Science Library since 1995, beginning her career as a Reference/Education Librarian, where she provided direct information and research services to students, staff, and faculty. As the Director of the Mulford Health Science Library, she continues to offer some direct research support while focusing more broadly on advocacy for the library’s users. In this role, she works to ensure that the resources, services, and facilities needed by students, staff, and faculty are available and responsive to their needs.

 

Her primary research interest is reflective practice, particularly how librarians use reflective strategies to improve their professional work. On a personal note, Jolene is intentionally making time to read more novels as a way to balance her professional reading.

 

 

Students at Large Candidates:

Rylee Williamson

 

Rylee is a sophomore in the Pre-Radiation Therapy Program at The University of Toledo, where she is pursuing a career dedicated to compassionate patient care and service.

Rylee is an active and engaged student leader on campus. She is a member of Chi Omega, where she serves as the Career and Personal Development Director, supporting her peers in academic success, career exploration, and ongoing personal development.

In addition to her involvement in student organizations, Rylee works as a Fingerprint Technician for the University of Toledo Police Department. In this role, she provides fingerprint backgrounding services to both the campus community and the community at large, contributing to essential safety, compliance, and outreach functions.

Chezney Taube

 

Chezney Taube is an early childhood education student at the University of Toledo with a 4.0 GPA. She currently works as a server, fingerprint technician, and social media manager, and she enjoys connecting with people across a variety of environments. She is committed to creating positive, supportive spaces and values opportunities that foster growth through kindness, effective communication, and meaningful interaction.
