Clinical Showcase: Invasive Bladder Tumor

Patient presented with a large invasive tumor in their abdomen. Patient was hesitant to have surgery as it involved the removal of the bladder, prostate and part of the colon resulting in a large change in their daily life. Patient dataset was segmented and the resulting in both a digital interactive 3D model and printed 3D model. Both models were utilized by the lead physician to aid in patient education in explaining the severity of the tumor.

"I wanted to attempt a very complicated multi-organ resection on a patient with a large tumor. He was unable to fully understand the complexity of the operation and the need for urinary and fecal diversion. After the model was printed, I was able to adequately explain the procedure to which he and his family agreed. His margins were negative, and he now has no evidence of disease. Without the model I do not think the patient would have agreed to the surgery and would be in hospice care."
