Flower and Sleiman Receive College Awards
December 2009: Breanna Flower received the Engineering College Outstanding Student Leader Award and Sleiman Sleiman received the Engineering College Outstanding Senior for College Contributions Award at the Fall 2009 Commencement. Congratulations!

Chemical Engineering Team Wins Soccer Tournament
Decemeber 2009: CES(Awesome Chemical Engineering Squad) team composed of Ammar Al-Ammar, Justin McIntyre, Mike Flannagan, Rick Hausman, Tilak Gullinkala, Jinglong Liu, Nima Hakimelahi, and Xiaoru Wang won the 2009 fall intramural indoor soccer tournament. Congratulations!

Professor Saleh Jabarin gives Sigma Xi Lecture
October 2009: Professor Jabarin presented the 2009 Dion D. Raftopoulos/Sigma Xi Outstanding Research Award Lecture. In the photo, Professor Jabarin receives the award and $1,500 check from Sigma Xi President Professor Frederick Williams. The award recognizes Professor Jabarin’s extraordinary contributions to polymeric materials research and integration of these activities into the curriculum.

Professor Escobar one of 20 under 40 Recognized.
September 2009: Professor Escobar was recognized by WTOL and co-sponsors as one of 20 individuals under the age of 40 in northwest Ohio for her professional accomplishments and community work.

Chemical Engineers First in Starting and Second in Mid-Career Salary Survey.
September 2009: Chemical Engineers receive the highest starting salaries and are the second highest paid mid-career (15 years experience) employees according to a recent employee survey conducted by PayScale. The median starting and mid-career salaries reported were $65,700 and $107,000, respectively. Additional details are available Payscale's web site.

Professor Escobar named Associate Editor of Environmental Progress and Sustainable Energy.
August 2009: Professor Martin Abraham, Editor, has selected Professor Isabel Escobar to serve as Associate Editor of Environmental Progress and Sustainable Energy Journal - a publication of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (Journal web site).

Professor Lipscomb named to Editorial Board of the Journal of Membrane Science.
August 2009: Professor Glenn Lipscomb was selected to become a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Membrane Science (Journal web site).

Chemical Engineering 2nd Most Lucrative Career
July 2009: According to a recent survey from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, chemical engineering graduates command the second highest salary of all college graduates. Their average starting salary of $64,902 only trails that of petroleum engineering graduates who average $83,121. See the article in Yahoo!(R) Finance for more details.

Rohan Labde receives Best Poster Award at PINO 2009
July 2009: Doctoral candidate Rohan Labde received a certificate and $100 award for the Best Poster Presentation at the 2009 meeting of Polymer and Chemical Engineering Innovation Northwest Ohio (PINO). His poster was entitled "PET Pristine MMT Nanocomposite". Rohan's advisor is Professor Saleh A. Jabarin.

Professor Escobar co-editor of Sustainable Water for the Future
July 2009: A new book co-edited by Professor Isabel Escobar and her colleague Professor Andrea Schäfer (University of Edinburgh) entitled "Sustainable Water for the Future: Water Recycling versus Desalination" has an expected publication date of December 2009. Faculty receive Third Frontier Funding for biofuel research
June 2009: SuGanit Systems and University of Toledo researchers jointly received a grant of $999,900 from the Third Frontier Commission’s Advanced Energy Program of the State of Ohio to support their work on “Scale up of Cellulosic Ethanol Process Based on Novel Biomass Pretreatment and Efficient Co-Fermentation,” Professor Sasidhar Varanasi is the University of Toledo PI. Professors Connie Schall, Patty Relue (BIOE), and Jared Anderson (CHEM) are co-PIs.

Professor Steve LeBlanc elected AIChE Fellow
May 2009: Professor Steve LeBlanc was selected by his peers to become a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) in recognition of his professional accomplishments and contributions. Fellow is the highest AIChE membership grade.

Professor Isabel Escobar receives College of Engineering Outstanding Teacher Award
May 2009: Professor Escobar received the Outstanding Teacher Award at the College of Engineering Spring 2009 commencement. The award was given in recognition of instructional excellence and noteworthy contributions to College educational outreach initiatives.

Freshmen Whip Up a Batch of Solar Cells
January 2009: Using paint pigment, carbon, glass, and blackberries, the Freshmen in Professor Lipscomb's Orientation Class made solar cells as part of a project to evaluate the potential of solar energy as reported in the UT News.
