The Polymer Institute of The University of Toledo is affiliated with the College of Engineering, although faculty members and graduate students from other academic departments and colleges may pursue research, development and educational projects through the Institute.

The Department of Chemical Engineering offers graduate courses and conducts research in the areas of transport phenomena, thermodynamics, kinetics and reactor design, separation processes, biochemical and biomedical engineering, process dynamics and control, process design and optimization, polymer science and engineering, colloid and surface phenomena, paper science and technology, and pollution control and waste disposal.
