Graduate I-20 Request Instructions
These instructions are for admitted graduate students who have confirmed their intent to enroll and intend to enter the US on an F-1 Visa. If you are completing your program online from your home country you can disregard these instructions. Once you have officially requested your I-20 the International Office will process the request in order of receipt.
Recommended Deadlines for Timely I-20 Processing
The following dates are a guide and do not guarantee receipt of a visa in time for your semester.
Fall Start

Please note: If you are part of one of the Global Partnership programs (PSG, VIT) you will receive different instructions from your program contact.
To start your student visa (F1) application to come to the United States, you need to obtain Form I-20, “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status”. We prepare I-20 documents for international students who have accepted an offer of admission.
To obtain an initial, deferred or transfer in I-20
- Activate your MyUT account

- Visit the iRocket Portal and fill out the Graduate Initial, Deferral or Transfer In I-20 Request form.The iRocket
Portal uses your University of Toledo UTAD username and password to submit eForms
for review by OISSS staff. For problems with accessing your iRocket Portal, please
contact the International Office at oisss@utoledo.edu.
- Submit supporting documents through the iRocket Portal
- Financial Affidavit. Proof of enough financial resources to cover the cost of study at The University of Toledo and living in the United States for at least one full year (e.g. bank letter). The exact amount to demonstrate was emailed to you from our office with your admission and scholarship letters. Bank letters must be dated within 30 days of submission.
- Sponsor letter (Certificate of Financial Responsibility form), if the financial documents you provide are not in your name.
If any additional documents are required you will be contacted via the email you provide on your I-20 request form.Processing time for I-20 requests is approximately 3-5 business days, and the International Office does not send updates while they process electronic requests. The I-20 will be issued electronically via email after they have received all required supporting documentation.
The I-20 will be emailed to you as a PDF once we have received all required supporting documentation.
If you are bringing any dependent (spouse or children) you need to show an additional $5,000 for one dependent, and another $4,000 for each additional dependent.
