Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program
BASIC EMT AND PARAMEDIC COURSES
Earn your certificate to become an emergency medical technician (EMT) or paramedic. UToledo’s cutting-edge, accredited program prepares you like no other program in the Midwest.
Our EMT graduates are often hired even before they complete the program.
Basic EMT
Our basic EMT courses are offered Fall, Spring and Summer semesters and run for 15 weeks with a 36-hour clinical component.
Our students are well prepared to pass the national registry exam and become certified EMTs in Ohio.
Cost: $1,725 for students taking it as a standalone course and not as an elective.
- Includes tuition (7 credit hours), textbooks, uniform shirt, lab fees (background check, parking, ID costs not included)
- 15-week course offered each semester
Ready to become a paramedic?
Certified EMTs can earn certification as a paramedic in our three-semester program with both a Fall and Spring start.
Our EMS program is offered through UToledo’s College of Medicine and Life Sciences.

HANDS-ON CLINICAL TRAINING
Gross Anatomy
Work with fresh and embalmed cadavers in anatomy and physiology course and advanced airway skills development.
Clinical Skills
Develop and evaluate communication and assessment skills. Use pre-programmed mechanical and real-life (actor) patients. Receive timely feedback and debriefing. Use our labs to hone your skills.
Simulated Patient Scenarios
Train alongside peers in other health-related programs on state-of-the-art computerized patients. Instructors debrief and provide immediate feedback to your team.
Virtual Immersive Reality (VIR) and Computer-Aided Learning Modules
Learn with the latest technologies ― virtual, immersive stereoscopic 3D model modules along with advanced educational learning modules.
