FAQs

How long does it take to complete the program?

It takes 27 months to complete the program. The didactic year will begin in August and continue for 15 months. The clinical year will begin in January with students graduating in December.

How many students are admitted each year?

The program is approved to matriculate 40 students each year.

What degree does the UToledo Physician Assistant Program award?

After the completion of the program, graduates will be awarded a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MSBS) with a concentration in Physician Assistant Studies.

Does the program offer a hybrid option?

The program does not offer a hybrid option. All courses will be in person.

Is it possible to attend the UToledo Physican Assistant Program part-time?

No, all students are required to be full-time students.

Does the program offer advanced placement?

The UToledo PA Program does not provide advanced placement or advanced standing for any students.

Do I need a specific bachelor’s to apply?

The program does not require a specific bachelor’s degree. It is recommended to take the list of prerequisite courses to your undergraduate advisor to see what program includes most of the required prerequisites. This will avoid needing to take additional courses.

I am a military Veteran, does the program or university offer any services for military veterans?

The university has a Military Service Center available to military veterans.

Does the program offer deceleration?

The UToledo PA Program does not offer deceleration. The program does have an intervention and remediation policy. 

Can I continue to work while in the program?

It is recommended that students do not work while in the PA Program, but if necessary any student should not work a considerable amount of time while in the PA Program. 

Does the program require health care experiences/hours?

Healthcare experience is not required. However, the program does see the benefits of having some healthcare experiences.

If I applied to the program in the previous year, do I need to reapply?

Yes. You will need to reapply through CASPA and submit an application fee through the University of Toledo.

How does the program calculate Grade Point Averages?

The program uses the CASPA-calculated GPAs which include all completed courses. More information can be found on Calculating Your CASPA GPAs .

Does the program accept online labs for prerequisites?

Yes, the program does accept online labs.

I have two prerequisite courses to complete, am I eligible to apply?

Applicants can have up to three courses/labs pending when submitting their application. All courses/labs will need to be completed by June 15 of the year of potential matriculation. 

Does the program accept Advanced Placement credit courses?

The UToledo PA Program will accept AP college-level Math/Stats and Psychology prerequisites. AP courses are not accepted for any of the science prerequisite courses.

I completed a 5-credit hour Anatomy & Physiology course And a 3-credit hour Physiology course. Will these courses meet the Anatomy and Physiology requirements?

No, the program requires applicants to have 6 credit hours of Anatomy & Physiology or 3 credit hours of Anatomy and 3 credit hours of Physiology.

Does the program accept pass/fail classes as meeting the prerequisites?

No. The prerequisite courses must have a letter grade on the transcript.

Does the program offer any waiver for any of the prerequisite courses?

The program does not offer waivers for any prerequisite.
