Congratulations to Luis Cedeño-Rosario, Ph.D. candidate, Department of Biological Sciences, who was selected as the Tony Quinn Inclusive Excellence awardee for 2020. The awards ceremony took place during the Louis Stokes Midwest Regional Center of Excellence annual conference held virtually on Nov. 7, 2020. Luis is being recognized for his demonstrated passion, dedication and leadership towards
improving the participation of underrepresented minorities in STEM. He was nominated
by Dr. Deborah Chadee, Professor and Associate Chair, Department of Biological Sciences.
Luis is President of the UToledo Careers in Science student association and founder/director
of the UToledo NSM-Sci Outreach Program. During his time at UToledo Luis has demonstrated his dedication and commitment to education and research as well as to the UToledo campus community. In Luis' own words his greatest accomplishments have been... "At the outreach level: I think that the greatest accomplishment is the creation of the NSM-Sci outreach program and the 2020 LSMRCE Tony Quinn Inclusive Award; and being selected to participate in the University of Toledo COBI Advanced Leadership Academy (2019). At the research level: ECOG-ACRIN Spring Group Meeting Travel Scholarship Award (2019); Honorable Mention NASEM Ford Predoctoral Fellowship (2019); Selected to give a talk at the 2020 SACNAS National Conference; SACNAS registration scholarship award (2020); Selected to give a talk in a Minisymposium session at the 2020 ASCB National Meeting (Cancer Cell Signaling, Dissemination and Therapy Minisymposium). Luis credits his achievements and success at UToledo to his collaboration with Dr. Deborah Chadee. Luis said, "She is a great research mentor, and has given me advice and support to succeed at the personal and professional level."
