What is the Math Corps at UToledo?

Closely following the educational and mentoring practices of the Math Corps, a program that started "as a humanitarian effort to simply help some kids in need", in 1992 at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, the Math Corps at UToledo officially launched in 2022 with its inaugural Summer Camp! The Math Corps is about more than math skills: we prioritize mentorship through a "kids teaching kids" model, provide a positive learning environment and a strong sense of family.

Math Corps Mission

The mission of the Math Corps is to empower and inspire children from under-served communities – through the teaching of mathematics and the fostering of self-worth, strong values and a sense of family – to build good lives for themselves and a more just society for all.

The goal of the Math Corps then, is to ensure that every child, while cared for and supported in the present, goes on to graduate high school, fully prepared to succeed in college or other rewarding endeavor.
