Learning Supports

Orientation: The first week trainees will become acquainted with the UCC staff and other trainees as well as be introduced to UCC policies and procedures, technology, and other logistical matters. The next 2-3 weeks trainees will observe clinical sessions of senior staff members, then be observed conducting initial support sessions, before conducting sessions independently.

Individual Supervision: Trainees will be assigned an individual supervisor to meet with at least one hour per week to review clinical work, discuss developmental progress, and engage in professional development. Practicum supervision operates under umbrella supervision meaning that trainees may be individually supervised by an LPC, LPCC, Psychologist, or Clinical Social Worker under the umbrella supervision of an LPCC-S. The LPCC-S individual would not provide your weekly individual supervision, but will co-sign on necessary paperwork. Interns will be directly supervised by a LPCC-S or LISW-S, depending on their profession.

Training Seminar: Seminar is held for one hour weekly during the Fall and Spring semesters, and bi-weekly during the Summer semester. Seminar provides a space to check-in on how trainees are doing and for trainees to learn about various topics more in-depth from senior staff members. Topics are determined each semester by trainee's interests and needs. Example topics include but are not limited to: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Crisis Intervention, Interpersonal Therapy, Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Diversity and Cultural Exploration, and Career Development and Planning.
