UToledo/Case Western Reserve University's School of Dental Medicine Pre-professional scholars program (PPSP)

The University of Toledo College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics offers, in conjunction with Case Western Reserve University’s School of Dental Medicine, a 3+4 Program leading to both the baccalaureate and D.M.D. degrees.

Who is eligible to apply?

High school seniors with a minimum of a 3.5 or higher unweighted GPA and a 30 or higher composite ACT score or 1350 combined Verbal and Math SAT score. Superscores are not excepted. 

How do students apply for this program?

1.  First, you apply to The University of Toledo by submitting the undergraduate application, high school transcript, college transcript if applicable, ACT and/or SAT scores through UToledo’s Office of Admissions. Select Pre-Dent and B.S. in BIOL with a minor in CHEM.

2.  Once accepted, you must complete the UToledo/CWRU application by January 3. 

A completed application will include:

  • Rocket #
  • A one-page personal statement
  • A one-page resume
  • Three letters of recommendation. When filling out the application, you'll need the names of three letter writers, their title, institution and email address (two from high school teachers, one from a dentist you have shadowed). Please note, all letters must be received by the application deadline of January 3.

Once a completed application has been received in the Pre-Health Advising Center, the portfolio will then be forwarded to the Director of Admissions at Case Western Reserve University’s School of Dental Medicine for review.  Selected applicants will be invited to Case Western for an interview after which a final decision will be made.  If accepted into the program, the student:

  • must maintain an academic grade point average of 3.5 or better overall and in all science coursework.
  • must receive a score of 19 or higher on the Academic Average and 18 or higher on the Perceptual Ability sections of the Dental Admission Test (DAT).
  • must be recommended by the pre-health advisor at The University of Toledo.
  • must fulfill all admissions requirements of the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine and of the ADA Council on Dental Education.

By December 1 of  junior year at The University of Toledo, students in the program must complete an ADEA AADSAS application to the School of Dental Medicine and submit both an official UToledo transcript and the letter of recommendation from the pre-health adviser.
