    U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: National Institutes of Health (NIH)

    The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the primary Federal agency for conducting and supporting medical research.

    Helping to lead the way toward important medical discoveries that improve people’s health and save lives, NIH scientists investigate ways to prevent disease as well as the causes, treatments, and even cures for common and rare diseases

    The NIH Undergraduate Scholar Program (UGSP)

    The NIH Undergraduate Scholar Program (UGSP) offers competitive scholarships to exceptional students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to biomedical, behavioral, and social science research careers at the NIH.

    NHLBI Research Training Programs for Undergraduate Students

    These programs are designed to encourage undergraduate students to consider a career in biomedical or behavioral science and to provide students an opportunity to learn more about the different research careers available. Through these programs, undergraduate students work with experienced scientists at the Nation's top biomedical research institutions, gain invaluable knowledge, and make contacts for the future.
