Jesup Scott Honors College

Honors Curricular Requirements

Jesup Scott Honors College students are subject to specific course requirements designed to deepen the educational experience in their major and offer a shared exposure to an interdisciplinary humanities/social science core emphasizing community engagement and critical thinking skills. The required sequence of these courses a student should observe is first determined by their entry date to UT and secondly by the degree-granting college in which they are enrolled.

Student who enrolled at UT before the Fall 2018 semester are (largely) subject to the "old curriculum" represented immediately below. The relevant column therein is set by the students degree-granting college (as the students shifts majors at UT, the relevant column will also change). Students who enrolled at UT for the Fall 2018 semester or after are subject to the "new curriculum" detailed lower on this page.

Any questions about your Honors requirements to graduate can be directed to the Asst. Dir. of Student Services for the JSHC, Josh Martin, at joshua.martin2@utoledo.edu or at 419-530-6180.

Fall 2018 and later UT admits will also find the columns below relevant to their degree-granting college, but will also have the option of choosing between the BLUE track and the GOLD track. Both tracks of the "new curriculum" ultimately require 27 Honors credit hours. However, whereas the BLUE track (detailed below) requires only three Honors core classes, the Gold track requires five. Ultimately, the difference between the two tracks is how many of the 27 Honors credit hours come from HON courses (i.e., 9 or 15) as opposed to from major/elective courses. The BLUE track is designed with pre-professional majors in mind, who may have less flexibility in their curriculum. Any student can opt into the GOLD track by following the second table below while also satisfying the BLUE requirements for that degree-granting college.
