COVID19 Impact on Course Evaluations and CAL Faculty Tenure and Promotion Schedule

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO SPRING 2020 COURSE EVALUATIONS

  •  Regular course evaluations are suspended.
  • The university will deploy 4 general questions designed to gather information.
  • These questions will not be required for any future evaluation or dossier.
  • The four-question evaluations will be available from April 20 to May 3, 2020 at 11:59 pm via the online Campus Labs Course Evaluation System.
  • Students will be sent out a link to complete the course evaluation through both email and Blackboard.
  • Faculty can view feedback responses and send out reminders by visiting utoledo.campuslabs.com/faculty.

Spring 2020 Evaluation — 4 Questions

  1. How well were you able to learn the material in this course? Please explain your response.
  2. Did you have any issues accessing the course materials, communicating with the course instructor, or participating in course learning activities? If so, please describe the reasons for these issues (e.g., lack of access to the internet or a computer, etc.).
  3. What went well in this course?
  4. What didn’t go well in this course?

Finally, it was previously announced that we will be using Campus Labs Software to deploy four course evaluation questions for all spring 2020 courses.  Faculty are not required to use this information in their promotion and tenure materials, but may choose to include it if they wish to do so. We will also be using this same process for all summer courses.

COVID-19 TENURE CLOCK EXTENSION

(From the Provost Office)

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, any pre-tenured faculty member who feels that they have experienced “extraordinary professional circumstances due to external factors out of the faculty member’s control and may need extra time before submitting their materials for tenure and promotion” should follow our current process outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA, 8.1 & 8.2).

Those pre-tenure faculty who would like to request a tenure clock extension should first submit their name for consideration by completing this Tenure Clock Extension Request Form at https://www.utoledo.edu/offices/provost/webforms/tenure-clock-extension.html. Upon submitting the form, guidance for officially submitting the request in Faculty180 will be sent to you. Once this process is initiated, the tenure clock extension request must be approved by the faculty member's department chair, dean and the Provost.

“The request for extension of the probationary period must be made in writing by the Faculty Member to his or her College Dean, with concurrent notification to his or her respective Department Chair/School Director. The College Dean will consult with the Member’s Department Chair/Director to discuss the request and then forward his or her recommendation to the Provost.” (UToledo CBA section 8.1 & 8.2)

DEADLINES FOR REQUESTS FOR EXTENSIONS

  • Faculty in year 5 submit the request in writing by June 1, 2020.
  • Faculty in years 1-4 - submit the request in writing by the end of fall 2020 semester
