Agile Project Management Certificate Program

This three-day course is designed to provide detailed procedural knowledge of project management functions through a combination of lecture, small group exercises and large group discussions.

It includes a compare and contrast between Agile and Predictive /Waterfall / Traditional project management.  It also includes tools and techniques of both. 

This course follows the best practices for project management as outlined in the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide®)  from the Project Management Institute (PMI®).

Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • Have a fundamental understanding of project management, agile and traditional
  • Understand the agile project management process groups and knowledge areas 
  • Know the fundamentals of planning a project
  • Know how to apply key aspects of project monitoring, control, and closure
  • Learn how to avoid typical pitfalls in project management
  • Receive 21 PDU's (professional development units) or 2.1 CEU's (continuing education units)


Program dates and curriculum:

All sessions are from 9 a.m. -  4:30 p.m. on the  Main Campus of The University of Toledo.  Parking and lunch will be provided. 

The Spring course will being on Monday, May 6, 2024 and run through Wednesday, May 8, 2024. The Fall course will run from Wednesday, November 6, 2024 through Friday November 8, 2024.

Day 1

  • Project management foundation concepts, process groups and knowledge
  • Stakeholder assessment
  • Traditional/Predictive Project Management vs. Agile Project Management
  • Triple Constraints (Scope, Schedule, and Cost)
  • When to use Traditional/Predictive vs. Agile Project Management
  • Project planning:
    • Scope statement
    • Work breakdown structure
    • Estimating resources, durations and Schedule sequencing
    • Risk management planning
    • Schedule development and trade-off analysis

Day 2

  • Agile terms and tools
  • Communication planning
  • Project team development
  • Quality planning
  • Procurement planning
  • Discussion and exercises 

Day 3

  • Project execution
  • Monitoring and controlling project work, such as:
    • Scope verification and control
    • Schedule control
    • Cost control and earned value
    • Managing project teams
    • Conflict sources and resolutions
    • Risk monitoring and control
    • Contract administration
    • Performance reporting
    • Issues management
    • Variance analysis
  • Integrated change control
  • Project close-out
  • Contract close-out
  • Book shelving vs. archiving
  • Administrative closure
