Study and Intern at Yanshan University

Ⅰ. Short-term Chinese Language Program 

Short-term language programs usually start in July and lasts for three weeks, with 26 class hours per week. According to the student requirements and their Chinese language proficiency, the courses include comprehensive Chinese, listening comprehension, speaking, and Chinese culture. 

Ⅱ. Long-term Chinese Language Program 

Long-term Chinese language programs begin in March (Spring Semester) and September (Fall Semester). The duration of each program can be one semester, one year, or two years. These programs cover five different proficiency levels: elementary level (I and II), intermediate level (I and II ), and advanced level. After a certain period of learning, international students may apply for HSK examinations.   HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) examination tests Chinese language learners proficiency.

Major courses for long-term Chinese language learners include Comprehensive Chinese, Chinese speaking, Chinese Listening Comprehension, Chinese Reading, Chinese Culture, Business Chinese, Audio-visual Chinese, and HSK Intensive Training. 


Application Information/How to Apply 

1. Required Materials

Applicants should submit the following materials to the College of International Exchange: 

    1. Application form for international students to study at Yanshan University with a photograph of the applicant (download);
    2. Curriculum vitae or resume (download);
    3. Certified educational records, degree certificates or diplomas in the original language with Chinese or English translations; 
    4. Copy of applicant’s passport (the photo page); 
    5. Physical examination form for foreigners (download); 
    6. Application fee: 400 RMB for language programs. Application fee should be paid after enrollment and arrival. 

2. Application Deadlines

    • Application Materials submitted for spring semester are due on December 30. Application materials submitted for autumn semester are due on June 30. 

3. Application Review

The application documents will be reviewed and evaluated. The admission letter and JW202 Visa Application Form will be sent to qualified applicants.     

4. Admission Letter

Successful applicants will receive Admission Letter and JW202 Visa Application Form for the convenience of visa application. Students can apply for a student visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their country with these documents. 

5. Registration

Successful applicants must register on the day stipulated in the Admission Letter. Applicants who cannot register at the university on time must inform the College of International Exchange in advance. A failure to register on time will result in cancellation of candidature to study at the university. 

  • Note: Each applicant is required to provide four 2-inch photos (passport size) and six 1-inch photos when registering at the university.

  • Insurance for all students:  300 RMB/6 months or 600 RMB/year.

Facilities

Accommodations include the following:

  • Each room has two beds. 
  • Each room is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave oven, TV, air conditioner, and internet access. Internet is paid by the occupant. 
  • Each unit is equipped with a shower (installed solar energy water heater), toilet, and automatic washing machine.

Fees

  • 40 RMB/day/bed (based on the actual number of days) 
  • 4800 RMB/semester/bed (only for long-term language programs) 
  • Pay for one semester or one school year at a time.

Deposit

A deposit of 1000 RMB is required at check-in and will be refunded at check-out.

International students who have obtained HSK certificates at a required level can apply for Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degree programs at Yanshan University. Students need to have a level 4 on the New HSK examination. For some Master and Doctoral programs, the courses are taught in English. 

Application Information/How to apply 

Prerequisites

Bachelor's Degree Program

  1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a foreign passport. 
  2. Applicants must have a high school certificate. 
  3. Applicants must be between 16 and 60 years old. 
  4. Applicants must be in good health. 

Master’s Degree Program

  1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a foreign passport and be in good health; 
  2. Applicants for master’s degree program must have a diploma of bachelor’s degree or equivalent. 
  3. Applicants must be under the age of 40. 

Doctoral Degree Program

  1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a foreign passport and be in good health; 
  2. Applicants for doctoral degree program must have a diploma of master’s degree or equivalent. 
  3. Applicants must be under the age of 45. 

Procedures for Application and Enrollment

Besides the aforementioned materials, international students who apply for undergraduate programs should also provide academic records of high school education, a photocopy of HSK-4 certificate and two letters of recommendation. Students who apply for master or doctoral degree should provide academic record of undergraduate and master studies, a photocopy of HSK-4 certificate, personal statement, and letters of recommendation from two associate professors or professors. 

2. Application Deadlines

    • Master and doctoral degree programs:April 30 

3. Application Review

In order to consolidate and expand the exchange and cooperation between our university and overseas institutions, Yanshan University has implemented an internship program for international students in China. The program provides opportunities for sophomore or above and graduate students from overseas colleges and universities to learn Chinese and practice English teaching in Yanshan University, so as to build a platform for cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.

  1. Program Requirements:

⦿ International students participating in the program should be law-abiding, cheerful, positive and have a sense of teamwork;

⦿Have the physical condition, mental quality and ability to work under pressure to live and work overseas for a long time;

⦿Priority will be given to sophomores and above, as well as recent graduates of bachelor's and master's degrees, particularly those majoring in foreign languages and education.

 

  1. Program Duration:

There are two kinds of duration for the program.

⦿ One semester from March to July or from September to next January;

⦿ One academic year (two semesters) from September to next July.

 

  1. Program Content:

⦿ During each semester, participants can take 1 or 2 Chinese language (mandarin) courses according to their Chinese proficiency level.

⦿ The average weekly teaching hours should be no more than 10 hours, and monthly teaching hours should not exceed 40 hours.

 

  1. Program Benefits:

⦿ Yanshan University provides free on-campus apartment for participants of the program and offers corresponding living allowances based on their actual teaching internship hours.

⦿ For participants who complete a one-semester internship, Yanshan University will pay for their one-way economy class international travel expenses. For those completing a one-year internship, Yanshan University will pay for their round-trip economy class international travel expenses.

 

  1. Program Management:

⦿ The International Cooperation Office of Yanshan University is in charge of the overall management of this program.

⦿ The School of International Education of Yanshan University is primarily responsible for visa applications, entry procedures, enrollment, and coordinating Chinese language course arrangements for program participants.

⦿ Relevant departments are in charge of arranging teaching internship programs for program participants.
