Services: Pre-Print File Preparation
There are a number of concerns that need to be addressed before a digital 3D model can be printed. Consult with the print specialist to determine adjustments to your model prior to printing.
Some, but not, all include:
- Good Geometry - In order for the print software to properly read a digital file, the model geometry
should not have overlapping edges, incomplete areas (holes), wrong facing triangles
and must also have appropriate structural wall (object) thickness based upon print
material and desired outcome usage.
- Size Considerations - Our printers are capable of producing a wide variety of detailed models. Some fine
detailed models may need to be scaled-up to accommodate small or intricate details.
Some larger or complex prints may need to be 'cut' into separate pieces (that are
reassembled post-print model finishing) to accommodate your end usage.
- Print Support Scaffolding - In order to maintain the structural integrity of the 3D print, some type of print support scaffolding is usually added by the 3D print software. The software evaluates the digital model based upon the printer features and available support materials. Support scaffolding is then automatically added and can be adjusted when needed. This additional support material needs to be removed upon completion of the print and is discussed in more detail in Post Print Model Finishing.
